DetoxDroid vs Lock Me Out
Lock Me Out has been around since 2014 and it shows, in a good way: three blocking modes down to lock-screen-only, lockouts by schedule or by usage (time in apps, number of opens, number of unlocks), only at certain places if you like, breaks on a Pomodoro rhythm, and a way out that is either a password or a payment at a price you picked when you were still sober-minded. It collects nothing, and the developer says so plainly. DetoxDroid is the opposite temperament. It never locks you out of anything on day one; it makes the thing you keep opening gray, slow and quiet until you don't.
The short version
Lock Me Out is a lockout with teeth: usage rules, an allow-list mode that leaves only the apps you keep, uninstall protection, and the option to pay your own fine to get out early. DetoxDroid is a filter: gray, dim and blur per app, a wait before each open, a doomscroll interrupt, a budget that tightens and then locks. Lock Me Out can block by location; DetoxDroid can't. DetoxDroid breaks the scroll and takes the colour out; Lock Me Out's listing mentions neither. Both collect nothing, both work without an account. Lock Me Out charges for Premium; DetoxDroid's features are all free.
Where Lock Me Out is better
- Lockouts by usage: time in apps, total screen time, app opens or device unlocks.
- Three blocking modes: block a list, allow only a list, or lock-screen only with calls still possible.
- Lockouts at chosen places, or paused at chosen places.
- Pay to get out early, at a price you set in advance. A real deterrent, if that is your kind.
- Hides notifications from blocked apps and can silence the ringer during a lockout.
- Around since 2014, with a free APK on its website next to Google Play.
Where DetoxDroid is better
- Gray, dim and blur for the apps you name, from the first minute. Lock Me Out changes nothing about how an app looks.
- A doomscroll interrupt by how you scroll, in any app.
- A wait before each open, and a budget that gets stricter as it runs out instead of a lockout that is either on or off.
- Ready-made website lists for six categories.
- Open source, and every feature free. Lock Me Out's uninstall protection and locations are Premium.
- A text-only launcher widget and a screen time widget.

Every Lock Me Out cell comes from its own listing, website, docs or code as they read on 27 October 2026. "Not listed" means I couldn't find it there. German law asks a comparison to be objective and checkable, which is also simply the honest way to do it. If a cell has gone stale, tell me.
Which one
If what works on you is a lock you can't pick, Lock Me Out, and pay for Premium so the uninstall button is covered too. If locks make you resentful and you'd rather the phone were simply dull, DetoxDroid. On privacy they are equals, which is rare on this list, so pick by temperament.
